Junior League of Greenwich Teams up with Kempo Academy of Martial Arts & Greenwich Police for Women’s Self Defense Clinic

Greenwich Free Press file photoThe Junior League of Greenwich is teaming up with Kempo Academy of Martial Arts and the Greenwich Police Department to host a free, two-part Self-Defense Clinic for Women, at Kempo Academy of Martial Arts, in Cos Cob, on October 15th and 17th.

Part I, Introduction to Self- Defense, on Thursday, October 15 from 7:30 – 9:00 pm, will provide women with basic information about self-defense, taught by a Greenwich Police Officer. After the brief presentation, Sensi Jonathan Simon and Sensei Stephanie Aldworth will teach the class 5 basic self-defense moves. Attire is athletic and comfortable.

Part II, Advanced Level Self-Defense class, on Saturday, October 17 from 9:00 – 10:00am, will build on what was learned in the introduction class. Students will wear basic street attire, jeans, flats, jewelry, etc. in order to learn how different it feels to move in regular street clothes. Handbags are also recommended so they can be used as part of the lesson.

Although it is not required to attend both classes, it is highly recommended to attend the Introduction class before attending the Advance level class.

Class size is limited, with maximum of 20 people and registration is required. Classes are open to all women in Greenwich ages 16 and older on a first come, first serve basis.
