National Therapy Animal Day Marked with Proclamation at Town Hall

Fred Camillo presented a therapy animal proclamation on Saturday on the front steps of Greenwich town Hall. April 30 was National Therapy Animal Day.

Several therapy animals and their handlers were present to accept the proclamation. Susan Fleischer brought her Goldendoodle Coco. Elizabeth Lynch brought guinea pigs Cookie and Moo, and Selina brought Killer Foo Foo, a shitzu.

Susan volunteers with elderly residents at Atria, Elizabeth visits with children in a reading program at Community Center, Inc. and with adults recovering from addictions at the DuBois Center in Stamford, Selina visits hospice patients through Caring Hospice Services.

Pet Partners is the most respected therapy animal registration program in the United States. It registers nine species of animals for animal assisted therapy.

Three therapy animal teams from Pet Partners were honored to accept on behalf of the dozens of therapy animal teams that work in our community’s Schools, hospitals, and mental health facilities.

Therapy animals have been specially trained and tested to provide unconditional love and support to help humans recover from illness, overcome mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD, and facilitate learning in children.
