Past and present Perrot Memorial Library Association Board members, Library staff and local elected officials recently gathered to celebrate the retirement of Perrot Library Director Kevin McCarthy, who served in the position for 27 years.
“Kevin provided unparalleled dedication and commitment to Perrot Library as the Director,” said board president, Kathy McCormack. “He has been a mentor, colleague and friend to all who have had the privilege to work with him, bringing a spirit of warmth, leadership and cooperation to the Library and the community beyond.”
Having been the Director for nearly three decades, the continued success of Perrot Memorial Library during that time has been in part thanks to Kevin. He also expertly guided the Library through extremely challenging times. This included the financial crisis of 2008, the loss of Kathy Krasniewicz and Kate McClelland in 2009 and the pandemic of 2020.
McCarthy’s retirement celebration included cake, champagne and music from a Greenwich Symphony Orchestra quartet. Greenwich First Selectman Fred Camillo provided a proclamation designating February 3 as Kevin McCarthy Day.
Trish Tomlinson joined the Perrot staff on February 10 as the eleventh Perrot Library Director. Tomlinson has been a Librarian and Library Director for over a decade in both Connecticut and Massachusetts. Most recently she served as the Library Director at Plainville Public Library since 2018.
“We’re very excited for Trish to join and lead the Perrot team,” McCormack said. “She will bring her extensive experience as a Library Director and as an Adult, Young Adult and Children’s Services and Reference Librarian. Her leadership will help continue to grow Perrot Library’s services, programs and help us to meet the ever-evolving needs of our patrons.”
Founded in 1904, Perrot Memorial Library is located in Old Greenwich, Connecticut, and is a private, 501(c)(3) institution, owned by the Perrot Library Association and affiliated (sharing a catalog) with the larger Greenwich Library system.
