Flowers, Soaps, Candles, and Much More: Shop Abilis Gardens & Gifts for Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 12 and Abilis Gardens & Gifts is the place to shop for unique and one-of-a-kind items. The options focus on flowers and plants in the greenhouse to home decor, handmade soaps, lotions and candles, diffusers and fresh beautiful special Mother’s Day flower arrangements (available for pre-order and grab-and-go arrangements). But there is much more to choose from once you step inside!

Popular items include kitchen towels with wonderful sentiments of motherly love or Greenwich neighborhood names, fun patterned Swedish dishcloths that expand when wet, and mini diffusers in a variety of scents that include clips ideal to attach to the inside of a car. There is also an array of Mother’s Day themed jewelry, handmade reusable bags, seed packets, diamond art coasters, and “Greenwich” apparel.

Among the gift items are handmade “houses” direct from a craftsmaker in Pennsylvania made from reclaimed barn wood, each one unique, and also out of reclaimed barn wood are framed slate signs for the various neighborhoods and destinations in Greenwich – everything from Chickahominy to Island Beach and Byram to Tod’s Point – as well as ornaments fabricated from tile mosaics in bird shapes.

And of course, everyone, especially moms, appreciates it when you shop local, and shop small businesses.

Even better, at Abilis, you can select a gift that gives back because the greenhouse and gift shop provide training opportunities for the Abilis community members.

Customers are asked to pre-order flower arrangements by May 8th through the Abilis Gardens & Gifts website at abilis.us/gifts, but they will also be open next Friday, May 10th, and Saturday, May 11th, for grab-and-go floral arrangements for last minute gifts.

Misa, a community member at Abilis explained the process of making the quilt-like hexagons that adorn cotton carrier bags and zippered bags that are ideal to hold pens and pencils or makeup. Abilis Director of Program Development & Community Outreach, Heather Brown, said that Misa, who is also a talented pianist and origami afficionado, had discovered her knack for folding quilt-size fabric hexagons.

“We cut the fabric, fold the paper around it, and then after 24 hours we take the paper out,” Misa explained.

“A quilter came in and taught everyone how to make the hexagons and Misa just took off making them and folding them,” Guiffra said.

Abilis Gardens & Gifts is located at 50 Glenville Street in Greenwich, CT 06831
