Greenwich Ranked Safest Among Communities with 50,000+ Residents

According to home security experts SafeHome.org Greenwich is the safest community in America in the category of towns with more than 50,000 residents.

SafeHome says, “Not only is Greenwich the safest city in the nation, but it is also the wealthiest city in Connecticut.”

While the honor is significant, SafeHome’s reference to Greenwich as a city is an error. Greenwich is a Town.

SafeHome says Greenwich’s population is 62,942, and its citizen-to-officer ratio is 351. (Actually, police force has 155 members, which would be a citizen-to-officer ratio of 406.)

SafeHome said the town’s violent crime trend is -39.1%, its with 11 violent crimes and property crime trend -14.4%.

The SafeHome methodology is here.

On his Friday morning radio show, Peter Tesei said Greenwich is strong because of its people, places and policies, including its fiscal management.

“We have a lot to be proud of in terms of direction and vision,” he said. “The vision is to remain a premiere residential community. The strength of our community is our volunteers.”

Tesei said for his upcoming state of the town address (which will be broadcast live on WGCH) he plans to speak more extemporaneously than in the past and will offer more time for questions.

The state of our town is measured by the activism of our volunteers to support community life.
