In an evening filled with raw narratives and authentic insights, Gestetner’s account provided students with a firsthand look at life on the front lines. Beyond mere information, the event aimed to spark a deeper understanding and appreciation for the diverse perspectives shaping the region.

Against the backdrop of growing global anti-Semitism, the event took on added significance by shedding light on the ongoing situation in Israel. Attendees left with a heightened respect for soldiers like Gestetner and a nuanced view of the challenges faced in the region.

The program also included engaging activities such as a Krav Maga session led by professional self-defense instructor Gus Bottazzi, promoting personal safety and empowerment. A flavorful touch was added with a Shawarma station courtesy of ‘Golan Heights NYC.’

A poignant moment occurred with a community service project where attendees collectively prayed for hostages still in captivity, marking 100 days since their capture. Each student pledged to perform an extra act of goodness in their honor.

The Israel Odyssey series, a project of Jewish Riverside Old Greenwich and Chabad of Greenwich, seeks to promote unity and understanding among local high school students. Through a seamless blend of personal narratives, self-defense, culinary experiences, and community service, the event embodied mutual respect and dialogue.

The Israel Odyssey is grateful for the community’s positive response and anticipates the continued impact of the Israel Odyssey series. The upcoming events promise more unique and transformative experiences for local youth.
