Open letter from Patricia Carey, Open Art Alliance Parent Theatre Arts Committee Member
After a three year delay, Open Art Alliance will finally host its long awaited Gala on Monday, May 23 at 6:30pm at The Water Club.
For the past five years, my daughter has been a part of this uniquely wonderful organization that not only offers a variety of theater opportunities to young people but engages these budding thespians in mentorship, outreach, civic engagement and community philanthropy.
Funny enough my daughter has always been a bit shy but also someone who loves to sing and perform. At Open Art Alliance she has been given the time and encouragement to become a dynamic and more confident performer. This didn’t just come from the incredibly dedicated leadership team of professionals at Open Art Alliance, but also and possibly more importantly, from the encouragement and support of her Open Art Alliance peers.
The diverse community that Open Art Alliance has created, nurtured and developed is special. While theater arts and education for our young students is at its core, I think the addition of engaging the kids in the important community service element of this organization sets it apart.
In particular, to volunteer and interact with a diverse community of seniors with special needs, instills empathy in the students allowing for more collaboration and respect during the creative process of producing a show together.
At the recent cast party for Cinderella, I witnessed the high school seniors sitting on the floor with the miniature first graders playing games, eating too many treats and of course singing show tunes. This is unique, this is refreshing, this is community, this is Open Art Alliance.
I encourage our greater community to support this beautiful organization or become a part of it, you will not regret it.
