India Cultural Center Awarded Grant to Archive South Asian Immigrant Histories in Connecticut, Led by ICC Teens

An $18,300 grant to India Cultural Center awarded by Connecticut Humanities will enable a two-year digital archiving initiative to preserve the oral history projects created through My Story, Our Future, a teen oral history program.

Launched in 2022, My Story, Our Future is a collaboration between India Cultural Center, UConn’s Asian & Asian American Studies Institute, and Greenwich Historical Society. The program empowers South Asian American teens to explore their individual and collective heritage and document untold family history for the next generation of students and scholars.

South Asian American stories have long been excluded from U.S. history books and curricula, and the experiences of South Asians in Connecticut have remained largely untold. This project contributes new narratives to Connecticut’s history by publicly sharing and preserving these stories in the CT Digital Archive and compiling them into a public-facing catalog of South Asian history in Connecticut as collected by ICC teens.

My Story, Our Future will run its fourth cohort this fall. If you are interested in participating or learning more, visit www.iccgreenwich.org/mystoryourfuture or contact Emily Miclon, ICC Program Manager: 860-221-4004, [email protected]
