12th Annual Mothers Day Bike Ride to Attract Hundreds of Riders to Old Greenwich and Tod’s Point

Screen Shot 2014-04-23 at 8.25.11 PMFor more than a decade, Greenwich families have woken up early on Mother’s Day and instead of making mom breakfast in bed, have headed out for a morning of fresh air, exercise and family fun. Started by Greenwic Safe Cycling as a way to educate kids and adults about good biking behavior, how to share the the road and how to maintain safe equipment, the ever-growing event is now run by the Old Greenwich-Riverside Community Center (OGRCC). “The Mother’s Day Bike Ride, now in its twelfth year, represents so many things that are great in Greenwich,” said OGRCC executive director Gina Gould.

“Kids and adults coming out to enjoy the day, local small businesses meeting with local residents, and taking advantage of the beautiful scenery at Tod’s Point that we tend to take for granted,” Gould said.

The ride will begin and end at Old Greenwich Elementary School, and while the day is about having fun, bike safety is still an important message to get across. Many local bike shops will be on hand at registration to check out bikes, do safety inspections, check helmets and show people how to best be safe on the roads. Other local businesses will be at the school with giveaways, food, live music, sampling and more “With so many bikers living here, it makes sense to host this town-wide event here in Old Greenwich,” said Old Greenwich Association president David Rafferty.

“The OGRCC and our local merchants are both integral parts of our community, and each is doing a great job making sure this will be a terrific day for all riders.” Online discounted pre-‐registration is open now at www.myogrcc.org. Adults are $10 and children under 12 are $5.00. Cash only sign-ups at the event will cost $15 and $10 respectively. Check-in at the school will begin at 8:30am and the festivities will go on till 10:30. The first 200 people to check-‐in will receive a free event t-shirt.
