Splurge Delivers 131 Easter Baskets to Kids in Crisis and Food Bank

SPLURGE, a gift shop in central Greenwich organized a collection of 131 Easter baskets for Kids in Crisis and The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County during their ninth annual Easter Basket Drive.

Organizers were thrilled with the 131 baskets, as their goal had been to collect 100 baskets.

Nearly half of the Easter basket donations came from local Girl Scout Troops # 50637, #50714 and #50387.

“Each year the local Girl Scouts support our Easter Basket Drive, but this year they really went the extra mile and we are all very grateful for their efforts,” said SPLURGE owner Sonia Malloy. “We were a little concerned early last week when we had only collected about 40 Easter baskets, but many people brought baskets this week which was incredible.”

Launched in 1978, Kids in Crisis is the only organization of its kind providing free, round-the-clock crisis counseling and temporary shelter for infants, children and teens. An extensive professional staff offers support and solutions to families and children struggling with issues including abuse, neglect, family conflict, mental health issues, divorce, substance abuse and more.

The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County, Inc. is lower Fairfield County’s primary hunger-relief organization. They are the only food bank that services this area. The Food Bank provides food to about 100 non-profit agencies and programs that serve low income people in their six town service area through bags of groceries and congregate meals. This includes soup kitchens, food pantries, child care programs, homeless shelters, senior centers, domestic violence safe houses, and rehabilitation programs.
