Christ Church Greenwich is honored to welcome actor, producer, and humanitarian Scott William Winters as guest preacher on Sunday, July 26.
Audiences may recognize Winters from his roles in Law & Order, HBO’s series Oz, Good Will Hunting, and The Americans — but he would tell you his most important work happens off-screen. A strong advocate for Christianity in Hollywood, Winters is the founder of Merciful, a nonprofit inspired by his Christian faith that empowers at-risk communities in the United States and around the world.
Merciful’s work spans prison ministry — including life-skills and anger management classes at the Terminal Island federal facility — as well as disaster relief and humanitarian care. A former volunteer EMT, Winters served on the ground in Haiti following the devastating 2010 earthquake.
A resident of the Greenwich area, he is one of four siblings who are all involved in the entertainment industry. His brother, Dean, appeared with him in Oz, but most recently is known for portraying “Mayhem” in the popular series of Allstate commercials. Scott Winters brings a rare perspective to the pulpit: the intersection of faith, fame, and service. His message speaks to anyone wrestling with how to live out their beliefs in demanding, high-profile, or unlikely places.
All are welcome to attend. Services will be held Sunday, July 26, at Christ Church Greenwich, 254 E. Putnam Avenue, Greenwich.
