Greenwich Green & Clean Winter Hanging Baskets Bring Festive Color to Town Through Community Collaboration

Greenwich Green & Clean has successfully completed its annual winter hanging basket project, transforming Greenwich Avenue and Putnam Avenue with 112 handcrafted seasonal displays.

The initiative brought together diverse community volunteers, local businesses, and civic organizations in a coordinated effort spanning several weeks.

Project Highlights
The multi-phase project began with ribbon-making sessions in the mid-October at a private residence, where volunteers worked together, with refreshments provided by Marc Penvenne of Bistro V. Three Greenwich High School students contributed by hand-painting hundreds of pinecones to add a personalized touch to each basket.

The main assembly took place in November at the newly renovated greenhouse at Sam Bridge Nursery & Greenhouses, where volunteers from the Japanese community, Junior League members, and Green & Clean Board members collaborated to complete all 112 baskets.

Bill Palmer and his team from Sam Bridge Nursery handled professional installation of the completed displays.

Leadership & Partnership
This year’s project was directed by new co-chairs Hiroko Shimizu and Nozomi Fukuzono, with assistance from Misako Saji. The initiative received principal financial support from The Ashforth Company and in-kind donations from Maruichi Japanese Grocery Store.
“This project exemplifies the power of collaboration, with GG&C, local businesses volunteers, and community partners working together to enhance the beauty of Greenwich,” said Kanako MacLennan, Executive Director of Green & Clean.

“We are especially grateful to Sam Bridge Nursery & Greenhouses for providing their beautiful greenhouse space, without which we couldn’t have created these baskets,” MacLennan added.
