Raabe: Re-Elect Policy Failures? Why would anyone do that?

Submitted by Brian Raabe

The current Town of Greenwich administration – the BET, et al – has failed residents in multiple ways.

1. They campaign on public safety.

Not accurate.

The Greenwich Police Department announced speed cameras for school zones, armed with data reflecting thousands of cars racing past students.

Greenwich Police did their homework.

Gather data. Analyze. Act.

Yet the camera deployment has been delayed indefinitely and without explanation.

God forbid a child is struck now, what will the parent’s lawyer submit as Exhibit A?

The Town’s own published speeding data and the inexplicable reluctance to address it.

Failure.

2. They campaign on capital projects and investments being made.

But…

If the town spent money efficiently, why was Central Middle temporarily condemned?

Yes, a new school is being built.

A condemned sign will do that.

Current office holders should stop the chest thumping about all the spending on capital projects.

If you ignore an oil change for an engine, it seizes. You don’t deserve applause for buying a new car.

It is dumb money chasing a lack of action when needed (and a premium paid to eventually correct issues as a result).

Failure.

3. On the school budget cut, ripples continue to the present.

We are now parking buses on school grounds after having to contract with a new firm to meet the earlier start times.

The current bus issues lie at the doorstep of the administration, the BET, and Harry Fisher. This is what happens when you cut $4 million dollars.

Diesel fumes and back up beepers as students engage in studies.

It’s the school lawn turned into a loading bay in Newark.

Failure.

4. Finally, as mentioned, a pre-dawn start for students.

“Goodnight Moon,” is the children’s book.

This administration has authored, “Good Morning Moon.”

Larger class sizes, lower quality of service, waking up before dawn.

Again, courtesy of a capricious $4 million dollar budget cut.

Failure.

5. Corrective action.

If you’re a parent with children in the school system, or simply want the best for our young citizenry,  you can fix this now with your vote.

Turnover BET authority to intelligent, fact-based decision making versus caprice and anecdote.

Stop the mismanagement and lowest common denominator public services for our kids.

Bypass the new faces endorsed by the same administration that brought you all the shortcomings and outright dangerous conditions above.

More short-changing isn’t change.

Elect the Row A candidates, and there is a reason to VOTE FOR ALL SIX – ROW A – BET CANDIDATES.

The higher number of votes in total for one party, or the other secures the BET tie breaking vote.

Strange, but that’s how it works.

That tie breaking vote broke the school’s back last year with a budget cut and an unsigned, one sentence explanation for same.

They knew from the outset that what they were doing was contrary to the public interest.

So, voting for all six candidates on Row A matters.

When our own police department provides facts, analysis, and a plan of action – yet are stopped in their tracks on kid’s safety – something is fundamentally wrong.

It is the definition of failure.

Note: Deadline to submit LTEs for candidates is Oct 28, 2025 at 12:00 noon.
