The Cos Cob Fire Station, which includes living quarters, is being tested for mold. In a Facebook post on Sunday, Greenwich Professional Firefighters said they were informed earlier this month of the potential presence of mild in the living quarters.
“In response to this serious health and safety concern, the Town has initiated testing and will proceed with remediation as necessary,” they said, adding that out of an abundance of caution and in the interest of protecting their members, both career and volunteer personnel have been temporarily relocated from the living areas of the station.
They added that effective immediately, the career-staffed engine company (Engine 2) will operate out of Central Fire Station in downtown Greenwich.
“The health and well-being of our members remains our top priority,” Professional Firefighters added.
The situation is being actively monitored and communication is ongoing with the Town to ensure that all remediation efforts meet proper health and safety standards.
Additional updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
