Town Clerk’s Office to Be Open for Absentee Ballots for District 1 RTC Primary

Greenwich Town Clerk Jackie Budkins announced that on Saturday, Feb 26, her office will be open with special hours from 9:00am to 12:00 noon for Absentee Ballots for the District 1 Republican Town Committee Primary (Only).

The March 1 special election for RTC district 1 was triggered after five people gathered signatures on petitions following the surprising results of RTC caucuses last month.

Many Republicans were taken off guard at the historically high turnout and number of candidates. When the dust settled, 21 incumbents lost their seats.

On March 1, the five people, each having secured 50 signatures from registered Republicans in the district, will be on the ballot: Carl Carlson, Marla Weston, Bill Lewis, Joe Barillo and Lihong Zhang.

The five caucus winners were: Christina Vanderlip, Cheryl Resnick, Frederick Lee, Russell “Trey” Reynolds an Dan Quigley.

Registered Republicans in District 1 will be able to vote in person between 6:00am and 8:00pm on March 1 at town hall or by absentee ballot. Absentee ballots are available in the Town Clerk’s office.  The application is on the Town Clerk website here.

There are five seats in district 1 and whomever gets the most votes out of the 10 candidates (5 elected members and the 5 people who primaried them) wins.

New RTC officers and chair will be elected at the March 23, 2022 RTC meeting.
