First Selectman Shares Update on Town Recovery from Tropical Storm Isaias

Good afternoon.  This is Greenwich First Selectman Fred Camillo with an update on our recovery from Tropical Storm Isaias. Your Town Departments have been working tirelessly to open roadways and make the community safe.  Immediately after the storm, we had 134 road blockages across Greenwich; this has now been reduced to 99. We have been also working with Eversource to clear fallen trees and limbs from power lines.

Our main priorities have been to clear debris and trees from the roadways and power lines in order to ensure that the roadways are safe and to set the conditions for the restoration of electricity across our community. However, there are still many roads blocked. Our goal today is to get the all of them cleared.

The damage to the power lines is extensive and the work is complicated due to energized wires entangled in the debris. There are still many hazards in our Town and I am asking that residents attempt to limit their travel in order protect themselves and allow our responders time to complete their important work.

I know this storm has added stress to what was already a trying time dealing with COVID-19. I assure you that the Town of Greenwich is doing everything possible to restore our community to a sense of normalcy as soon as possible. However, realistically this is going to take some time. It may be several days before power is fully restored across Greenwich.

We have established cooling and battery re-charging stations in the lobby of the Public Safety Complex and in the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center. We are asking that anyone who visits these locations to wear a face mask and maintain appropriate social distancing.

Please remember that no one is in this alone. If you need help, then please let someone know. Police, Fire and Emergency Medical assistance is available for emergencies by dialing 9-1-1. Non-emergencies may be called into the Public Safety Dispatch center at 203-622-8000. The other Town departments may be contacted through the Town Hall switchboard at 203-622-7700.

Additional information is available on the Town website, www.greenwichct.gov

We will get through this together. Please remember to check on your neighbors and as always, be safe.
