On Feb 27 Greenwich Police conducting radar checks on Ritch Avenue were keeping an eye on west bound traffic. At about 3:00am an officer observed a driver, later identified as Jose Antonio Villa-Tolentino, 25, of 60 Stevens Ave in Stamford, traveling west bound on Ritch Avenue at 52 mph in a 30 mph zone.
A motor vehicle stop was conducted at the bottom of the 195 northbound entry ramp. Upon investigation Police detected a strong odor associated with alcoholic type beverages. Mr. Villa-Tolentino was asked to submit to standard field sobriety tests, which he did not perform to standard.
During the investigation, a motorist approached officers and related that he had been struck by Villa-Tolentino prior to him being stopped by police.
Damage to Villa-Tolentino’s vehicle was consistent with statements made by the motorist and it was found that Villa-Tolentino also evaded responsibility in a recent accident.
Villa-Tolentino was placed under arrest at 3:45am and transported to Greenwich Police headquarters for processing. Mr. Villa-Tolentino was charged DUI, Evading Responsibility,Traveling Too Fast, Failure to Drive Right, and No License.
His bond was set at $250 and he has a date schedule in Stamford Superior Court on March 14.
