Driver Who Sped through Byram at over 85MPH Faces Multiple Charges

On Sunday around 3:00am Greenwich Police spotted a black Chevrolet van traveling east on Delavan Ave at a high rate of speed, weaving within the lane of travel.

Officers attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop but the driver disregarded the emergency lights and sirens, and accelerated away from the police cruiser, reaching speeds over 85 miles per hour.

Police say the vehicle nearly crashed when attempting to navigate a curve in the roadway as it entered the I-95 north on-ramp at exit 2. Police eventually stopped the vehicle on the highway, and the driver, identified as Charlee Javier Lora-Rodriguez, who was showing signs of alcohol impairment, was determined to have a suspended license from a previous DUI arrest.

He was unable to perform field sobriety tests to standard and was charged with Driving under Suspension, Speeding, Reckless Driving, Engaging Police in Pursuit, DUI, and Failure to Drive in Proper Lane.

Mr. Lora-Rodriguez has a date in Stamford Superior Court on May 3, 2024.

He was released after posting the required 7% of his $1,000 bond.
