Josephine Sergi of Greenwich passed away Tuesday, April 28 at the age of 94. Josephine was born in Port Chester, NY on February 27, 1926 to Salvatore and Josephine Abate. She moved to Italy with her family as a young child, before coming back to reside in New York City as a teenager.
Her career started in the garment district of New York where she learned to become a seamstress. Along with sewing, she loved to cook and spend time with her family and friends. She was a devoted wife of 61 years to her beloved husband and lived her life as a wonderful caretaker, displaying her love for those closest to her through her passion for cooking. Big family gatherings around delicious Italian meals were a staple in the Sergi household. When she wasn’t with her family, she would spend time with friends enjoying a slice of pizza, or down at Arthur Avenue in the Bronx.
She is predeceased by her husband Rocco Sergi, and sister, Mary Santoro. She is survived by her beloved sons Joseph (Carol) and Frank (Mary Sue) and her cherished grandchildren, Alyssa Anne, Joseph Matthew, Victoria Rose, Rocco John and great grandchild Luke Ryan.
A private committal service will be held for immediate family at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Greenwich, CT.
