Dozens testified at a public hearing on a proposal to eliminate attics and basements from FAR. Many said the regulations have contributed to poor architecture, with people burying basements behind dirt and retaining walls, and in the worse cases, building “wedding cakes.” On the attic side, people argued that trussed attics are a waste of space and fire hazard.

A public hearing of the Planning & Zoning Commission is set for Tuesday Nov 15 at Greenwich Town Hall. The purpose of the hearing is for input on the proposed amendment regulation concerning how FAR is calculated. Specifically, the proposal would exclude attics and basements from FAR calculation.
