Suzanne Coyne Appointed Principal of Western Middle School

Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones announced on Friday the appointment of Suzanne Coyne as principal of Western Middle School, effective July 1.

Coyne was named interim principal last month.

On March 13 Dr. Jones emailed WMS families to say that Principal Dr. Wax woul be leaving Greenwich School at the end of the year to pursue other opportunities.

“Ms. Suzanne Coyne received overwhelming positive feedback from the hiring committees, staff, and parents of Western Middle School,” Dr. Jones said. “She is not only extremely respected as an administrator amongst her peers and school staff, but she is beloved by the entire WMS community. Ms. Coyne has already proven to be a dedicated and committed principal, serving as an amazing role model and leader.”

Ms Coyne has served Greenwich Public Schools since 1997 and has held multiple positions, including special education teacher and district special education instructional coach.

Named Western Middle School’ assistant principal in 2014, she was instrumental in the development of the school’s AVID and magnet school programs. A well-known leader to the WMS community who is passionate about teaching, learning, and leading, Coyne was named 2023 Middle School Assistant Principal of the Year by the Connecticut Association of Schools for demonstrating extraordinary leadership and unrivaled dedication to her students, school and community.

“I am so honored to be the next principal of Western Middle School,” Coyne said in a release. “Being the assistant principal for the last 10 years has been an amazing experience and has prepared me to take over as the building leader. I am proud of all that we have accomplished together during the many years to make Western MS the extraordinary school that it is today. I look forward to leading the school moving forward and push our school and community to achieve even more in the upcoming years.”
