Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones today announced the appointment of Mr. Steven Groccia as assistant principal at Cos Cob School, effective July 1. Mr. Groccia will support the entire Cos Cob community, assisting in the development and achievement of school goals and objectives, while advocating on behalf of all students.
“Steven Groccia is a highly qualified school administrator who will be a great addition to the Cos Cob School team,” Dr. Jones said. “We offer our deepest gratitude to Ms. Karen Vitti who, with tremendous dedication and commitment, has been on special assignment to cover the assistant principal role since September.”
Groccia comes to Greenwich Schools from Consolidated and Meeting House Hill School in New Fairfield where he currently serves as an elementary assistant principal.
While there, Groccia has been instrumental in helping to guide the smooth transition of a newly constructed school building supporting over 950 students in grades PreK-5 and more than 150 certified and non-certified staff members. He is known to be an outstanding instructional leader, having taught early childhood and upper elementary grades, while also chairing Special Education Planning and Placement Teams (PPT) and 504 meetings.
“Mr. Groccia brings a professional background of both elementary instruction and elementary instructional leadership that will help him truly support our students and staff at Cos Cob,” Principal Kerry Gavin said. “Steven shares our dedication to building a positive school culture, partnering with families, and representing the Cos Cob community as active members.”
Prior to his time in New Fairfield, Groccia served as a kindergarten and fourth grade teacher at Holmes Elementary School in Darien from 2017 through 2022 and a kindergarten and second grade teacher at the Academy of Aerospace and Engineering Elementary School in Rocky Hill from 2013 through 2017.
“I am honored to be named the next assistant principal of Cos Cob School and I look forward to being a part of a community that places such a high value on education,” Groccia said. “I intend to work collaboratively with the families, dedicated staff, and most of all the amazing students that comprise Cos Cob to achieve their personal and academic goals. I am confident that the skills I have developed during my prior experience will enable me to contribute positively to the well-established tradition of academic excellence of Greenwich Public Schools. I am grateful for this opportunity and excited to continue the exceptional work currently taking place under Principal Gavin’s leadership.”
Groccia holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Hartford, a master’s degree in STEM Education from Central Connecticut State University, and an Educational Administration & Supervision Sixth-Year certificate from the University of Bridgeport.
