PHOTOS: Alphabet Play at Old Greenwich School Continues Longstanding Holiday Tradition

On Friday, Old Greenwich School held their Holiday Alphabet play featuring costumed kindergartners in the gym.

The event is a long time tradition at the school and was packed with enthusiastic families.

Highlights of the holiday themed tradition were the costumes, songs about Christmas and Hanukkah, and the Alphabet, of course, with two kindergartners at a time sharing a short verse about each letter.

And there were elves, reindeer, xylophones, bells and giant letters.

A is for angels on top of the tree. Perhaps they might sing to you and to me.

B is for bells, in every shape and size. We love to hear their sound all around.

C is for candy canes, red and white. We just can’t wait to take a bite.

D is for Dreidel, a fun little top. We watch it spin to see where it will stop.

E is for elves who make toys day and night. They love to be busy and make things just right.

F is for fireplace where we’ll hang our sock. Father Christmas arrives at twelve O’clock.

G is for goodies and candies of each kind. As you empty your sock, look at all that you’ll find.

H is for Hanukkah, a special time for some: Lighting of candles, relatives come. A present each night for every girl & boy. Playing with a dreidel, which is a little toy.

I is for icicles that sparkle in the light, They make the tree so pretty, especially at night.

J is for Julenissen who visits in Norway. If children are good, he will come their way.

K is for kids and Christmas is for kids, so they say. But everyone wishes he were a kid on Christmas Day.

L is for St. Lucia who breaks winter’s spell and brings lots of light. Lucia light, Lucia light, Shortest day; longest night.

M is for Mexico where pinatas are a treat. When the pinata breaks open, there’s plenty to eat!

N is for names on Santa’s list. If you’ve been good, you won’t be missed.

O is for ,“OH”, and that’s what each of us say As we open our gifts on Hanukkah and Christmas Day.

P is for presents under the tree. Some are for you and some are for me.

Q is for quilts, to cover us at night, We just can’t wait for the morning light.

R is for reindeer, who pull Santa’s sleigh. They must be tired when they return on Christmas Day.

S is for Santa, so jolly in his suit of red. Should we take a peek, or just stay in bed?

T is for toy shop filled with all sorts of toys. Let’s listen to the music box while the toys march along.

U is for up and we’ll help put up our tree. With all the lights and decorations, What a sight to see.

V is for visitors who come to our homes. Those who can’t travel, we call on the phone.

W is for window where in Germany they place a shoe. If they have been good, they receive a treat or two.

X is for the kisses put on each Holiday card. We make our own and work very hard.

Y is for you and we hope you’ve done your best. Then you won’t have to worry, Santa will do the rest.

Z is for zillion, and we have a zillion wishes for you, But we’ll just say Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah, too!
