On Monday of Labor Day weekend Greenwich Schools Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones emailed families in the district with an update about transportation.
Jones said that on Thursday and Friday there were challenges including drivers missing stops; computer software elimination of stops which are necessary for safety, but just inside the walking zone; late pick ups and arrivals due to new start times, and compressed routes.
“Changing start times across all of our schools, a new bus company, and new software have made for a particularly complex start for our transportation team, and most importantly, a difficult start for many of our families,” she wrote. “We are working around the clock to address each individual concern and connect with families personally to ensure that these issues are corrected.”
Jones said the district’s transportation department worked throughout the weekend to add any missing stops and improve the efficiency of the bus routes.
Families are directed to the transportation page on the GPS website, which she noted were updated late Sunday evening and would be updated again on Monday.

About 30 buses were backed in diagonally along the northern parking lot at GHS. Sept 1, 2025
An issue for some residents on Hillside Road is that about 30 school buses are parked in the northern most parking lot where last week bus drivers were receiving instructions and getting familiar with their vehicles, resulting in lots of idling and back-up beeping.
Jonathan Supranowitz, the head of communication at Havemeyer confirmed Monday that buses are parked at GHS, WMS and at the Old Greenwich train station.
She shared an email that had been sent from Dr. Jones to a Hillside Rd neighbor saying, “We are waiting on the contract clearance for the actual bus lot we intend to utilize up I-95. All of the GHS buses will be off the student parking lot by Sept 15th (two more weeks). Our GHS students begin parking on Monday, Sept 15th, so it will be back to normal.”
She offered to share information with the Director of Transportation and Chief Administrator of Finance and Operations to see whether idling and reversing could be minimized.
Dr. Jones apologized for any inconvenience to neighbors of the school and thanked them for their patience.
