Greenwich Academy Squash has reached a milestone few athletics programs ever achieve. With a 5–2 victory over the Hotchkiss School at the 2026 U.S. High School Team Championships in Philadelphia, the team captured its 10th consecutive Division I national title – its 18th in program history.
“The championship was the culmination of years of sustained commitment, built on culture as much as talent,” said longtime head coach Luke Butterworth in a release. “Trust, accountability, and togetherness have been the program’s foundation, enabling GA to thrive under increasing pressure and expectations year after year.”
Since a finals loss in 2015, the program has gone undefeated, amassing an extraordinary 174-match winning streak.
The team’s captains, senior Charli Tompkins—who will continue her squash career at the University of Virginia—and junior Elle Graziano, set the standard through steady leadership and performance. Graziano provided one of the championship’s defining moments, rallying from two games down in the final match to clinch a pivotal point. As with any national championship run, depth across the lineup proved essential, and GA delivered at every position.
The atmosphere in Arlen Specter U.S. Squash center was electric. “You could feel the stakes in the air,” says Butterworth, “not just because it was a championship final, but because it was two elite programs competing at the highest level. Hotchkiss pushed us all the way in every position. That’s what makes a championship meaningful, earning it against a truly strong opponent.”
Behind the scenes, assistant coaches Jamie Sutcliffe and Arturo Barreto were instrumental to the team’s success by providing technical expertise, individualized attention, and unwavering support. Their work reflects a program-wide commitment to development, from early exposure in Lower School physical education classes to championship performances on the national stage.
Ten straight national championships represent far more than a statistic. They are a testament to culture, character, and a shared belief in excellence—one that has defined GA Squash for a decade and counting.
