Dr. Karen Eshoo to Lead King School in July 2018

The King School Board of Trustees has elected Dr. Karen Eshoo as the new Head of School effective July 1, 2018.

Dr. Eshoo will come to King from the Vistamar School, a private, independent high school located in Los Angeles, where she has served as Head of School for the past 6 years.

“Karen brings a notable depth and breadth of experience to the Head of School position, including a career providing educational thought leadership, developing innovative curricula, and leading mission-based strategic planning,” said Tom Conheeney, King School President Board of Trustees.

“We are very fortunate to have a person with both Karen’s credentials and personal warmth to lead King into the future, and we look forward to welcoming her to campus in July,” Conheeney added.

In addition to her role at Vistamar, Dr. Eshoo has an additional 20 years of experience in teaching and leadership, having served as Assistant Head of School at Lick-Wilmerding High School, and as Principal of Grades 1-8 at Sacred Heart Schools, both in California. She has two Masters degrees from Stanford University, in Education and History and a Doctorate in Education from the University of California, Berkeley.

“I am honored and humbled to be chosen as the new Head for King School,” says Dr. Eshoo. “I know that King’s student-centered learning philosophy, its expert teachers and its culture of respect, civility, and service make King an exceptional school that will prepare students to thrive in a rapidly changing world.”

King began an extensive, global search in May of 2017 through its Search Committee, supported by the consulting firm RG175.

King’s three finalist candidates were invited for meetings on campus with the broad King community, including parents, students, faculty, staff, administrators, Trustees, and alumni.

Search Committee members include Co-Chairs Ed Cesare ‘78 and Lynn King; Trustees Tom Conheeney, Mi-Sun Freeman, Rob Holtz, Sue Mirza, and Linda Petrone; and Faculty and Administrators Patrick O’Neil, Marnie Sadlowsky, Helen Santoro, and Rob Waller.

Current King Head of School Tom Main will continue to lead the school through June of 2018 when he will transition to his new role as Head of School for Ridgefield Academy.

King School is a highly selective PreKindergarten Grade 12 co-ed independent day school, located in Stamford, CT, and educating students from 30 towns. For more information, visit the King website at www.kingschoolct.org.
