Bob DeAngelo Selected as GHS 2015 Graduation Speaker

 

Greenwich High School’s Class of 2015 has announced Robert (Bob) DeAngelo as the Commencement Speaker for the graduation ceremony on June 18, 2015.

A Greenwich native, DeAngelo returned to  Town to run the local Boys and Girls Club in 1998, after 16 years with Texas Instruments and six years in the US Navy.

“We are so excited that Mr. DeAngelo has agreed to be the 2015 Commencement Speaker. He is a Greenwich High School Alumnus, Class of 1975,” GHS senior class President Julia Bunte-Mein said. “He is an outstanding community and youth leader who has dedicated his life to giving back to others. We cannot wait to welcome him back to share his inspiring message.”

“Bob has been a good friend to Greenwich High School for many years. Most of our graduates, at one point or another, spent time at the Greenwich Boys and Girls Club,” Dr. Winters said. “They know how that institution, under the steady leadership of Bob, contributed to the person they are today. It is an honor to welcome Bob back to GHS and to have him impart his wisdom on our graduates.”

Mr. DeAngelo served as the Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich for sixteen years (1998-2014.) He attended the Club growing up in Greenwich and credits the organization for its positive influence. Mr. DeAngelo reenergized the Club with innovative programming, strong partnerships throughout the community, and a robust capital campaign to rebuild the clubhouse.

DeAngelo forged a long-lasting relationship with the Greenwich Public Schools and worked hand-in-hand with the schools to support the needs of the children and families of Greenwich. Prior to his work at the Boys and Girls Club, Mr. DeAngelo was the Director of International Marketing for Europe/Middle East, based in Munich, Germany for Texas Instruments. He spent sixteen years with the company in the aviation/aerospace sector in various positions and locations around the world (1982-1998.) From 1978 to 1984, Mr. DeAngelo was a commissioned officer with the United States Navy and served on the USS Independence. From the time he was in college volunteering as a Big Brother to riding his bicycle across the county to raise funds to benefit the children of Greenwich, Bob DeAngelo has been dedicated to the service of those in need. Mr. DeAngelo received a Bachelor of Art in Chemistry at Bucknell University, Lewisburg, PA in 1979 and a Master of Art in International Relations from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA in 1993.

Greenwich High School graduation is scheduled for Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 6:30pm* at the high school’s Cardinal Stadium.

*In case of inclement weather, the commencement ceremonies will be held indoors in the GHS Student Center in two groups – students with last names beginning with L-Z will begin at 4:00 p.m., and students with last names beginning with A-K will begin at 7:15 p.m. While seating for the outdoor ceremony is unlimited and on a first come, first serve basis, each family will receive three tickets for use in case there is an indoor ceremony.
