All 13 GHS Students Recognized as National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalists Advance to Finalist Standing

All 13 Greenwich High School students who were recognized as Semifinalists in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program, have now been named Finalists.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an annual academic competition for recognition and college undergraduate scholarships, based on their Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) scores.

According to the National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSC), “over 1.5 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools entered the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. The selection of some 7,500 Merit Scholarship winners from the group of more than 15,000 Finalists is now in progress.”

Greenwich High School Principal Mr. Ralph Mayo shared, “Our entire GHS community is celebrating alongside these thirteen students. Achieving Semifinalist standing is an incredible feat, and now these students can add ‘Finalist’ to their impressive accomplishments. We are so proud of their continued hard work and look forward to their future success.”

More details on the formal recognition for these students by the Board of Education are forthcoming.
