Central Greenwich shook from two underground explosions Tuesday afternoon. According to the Greenwich Police Public Information Officer’s Tweet around 5:30pm, “There was an underground explosion Fawcett Place at Greenwich Avenue no one hurt Emergency crews on scene.”
A subsequent Tweet reported a second underground explosion at the intersection of Sherwood Place at East Putnam Ave. According to police no one as hurt.
Traffic along Rte 1 backed up in both directions as roadways surrounding each incident were closed. The final Tweet Tuesday afternoon reported that the explosions were within a large underground transformer.
