Trio Face Bank Fraud Charges after Cops Spot Suspicious Bank Activity

Greenwich Police arrested three men on Friday after plainclothes officers on Greenwich Avenue spotted suspicious activity at a bank.

Patrol officers and plain clothes officers were able to detain and positively identify the suspects as Robert Roberts, 33 of Bronx, NY; Michael R Catala, 37, of New York City; and Eugene Kleyman, 37, of Bronx, NY.

Investigation revealed that the three individuals conspired to present fraudulent documents, including a fraudulent Massachusetts Driver’s License featuring Mr. Kleyman’s photo and a fraudulent MasterCard detailing the victim’s name and Personal Identifying Information in an attempt to fraudulently cash a $3,600 check.

Mr. Roberts was charged with Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 3, Conspiracy to Commit Identity Theft 3, Conspiracy to Commit Criminal Impersonation, Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 2, and Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 3. His bond was set at $50,000 which he was unable to post and he was assigned a date in Stamford Superior Court on December 8, 2023.

Mr. Catala was charged with Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 3, Conspiracy to Commit Identity Theft 3, Conspiracy to Commit Criminal Impersonation, Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 2, and Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 3.

He was unable to post his $50,000 bond and was assigned date in Stamford Superior Court on Dec 8, 2023.

Mr. Kleyman was charged with Criminal Attempt Larceny 3, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 3, Identity Theft 3, Conspiracy to Commit Identity Theft 3, Criminal Impersonation, Conspiracy to Commit Criminal Impersonation, Forgery 2, Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 2, Forgery 3, and Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 3.

Kleyman was unable to post his $50,000 bond and has a date in Stamford on Dec 8, 2023.
