Greenwich Police arrested a 17-year-old by warrant on Jan 26. The youthful offender surrendered at Greenwich Police headquarters and was taken into custody.
According to the arrest report, on Dec 31, 2025 around 8:30pm, officers observed a 2025 Volkswagen traveling eastbound on East Putnam Ave by Hillside Rd. The vehicle was traveling side-by-side with another vehicle at a low rate of speed. The accused then honked his horn, which initiated a race between the two vehicles.
Officers attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop on the accused but the vehicle continued eastbound on East Putnam Ave at a high rate of speed, pulling away from the police cruiser after deploying an electronic license plate cover.
The accused passed several vehicles on the left, crossing over the double yellow center lines into oncoming traffic. The vehicle was later located, unoccupied.
After speaking to the registered owner’s attorney, the accused was identified as the driver of the vehicle at the time of the incident.
On Jan 20, 2026, the arrest warrant application was received by Stamford Superior Court. On Jan 21, 2026, the warrant was signed with a $35,000 court set bond.
The youthful offender was charged with Vio Readable / Lost Plates (In Connecticut, license plates must be clearly legible and unobscured, as dictated by Connecticut General Statutes § 14-18), Reckless Driving, Engaging Police in Pursuit, Illegal Racing on Highway and Failure to Drive in Proper Lane.
He was released from custody after posting the required 7% (two thousand four hundred and fifty dollars).
The teen has a date in Stamford Superior Court on Feb 9, 2026.
