On March 29 Greenwich Police plainclothes officers spotted suspicious activity at a bank in the central Greenwich business district.
Patrol officers and plainclothes officers working in the area were able to detain and positively identity the arrestee.
As police attempted to detain the arrestee, Souleman Traore, 23, of Bronx, NY, he attempted to flee the scene, physically engaging with officers. Traore had to be physically restrained and handcuffed, causing injury to an officer.
Police say their investigation revealed that the arrestee presented fraudulent documents (a fraudulent Cote d’Ivoire passport, fraudulent International Driver’s License and fraudulent service bill) detailing the victim’s name and personal identifiable information in an attempt to fraudulently open a bank account in the victim’s name.
Mr. Traore was arrested and charged with:
Criminal Attempt Larceny 6
Identity Theft 3
Criminal Impersonation
Forgery 2 (two counts)
Forgery 3
Interfering with Officer/Resisting
Assault of Public Safety Officer
Traore was able to post his $50,000 bond and assigned a date in Stamford Superior Court on April 12, 2023.
