Stamford Police said witnesses had reported that a BMW sedan fled the scene westbound on East Main Street.
“Thanks to diligent investigation and the use of surveillance cameras, officers were able to track the suspect vehicle’s route and canvass the area near Clark Hill Road,” police said in a release. “The search led them to the rear parking lot of 821 East Main Street, where they located a silver BMW with visible damage consistent with the reported accident.”
Inside, officers found a male suspect in the driver’s seat, identified as Jarrell Grant, 21.
During an inventory check of the vehicle, officers discovered a Springfield XDs 9MM semi-automatic handgun with 7 rounds in the magazine and 1 in the chamber, clearly visible on the driver’s side floor.
Mr. Grant was promptly arrested on motor vehicle charges and for illegal possession of a firearm.
“We commend the swift response and teamwork of Squad B that led to the identification and arrest in this case. The safety of our community is always a priority,” police said.
