Stamford Police Seize Suspect Vehicle in “Devastating” Hit & Run

The Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Squad announced on Wednesday they were investigating a hit and run collision involving a car that hit a 74-year-old pedestrian. The incident occurred on West Main Street near the junction with Alvord Lane at approximately 6:13 am on Tuesday, November 21, 2023.

The pedestrian, identified as Marie Jean-Charles, a Stamford resident, was crossing West Main Street from north to south.

The pedestrian was struck in the east bound travel lanes of West Main Street by a vehicle that was traveling at what is believed to be a high rate of speed. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The offending vehicle did not stop after striking the pedestrian and continued driving eastbound on West Main St.

Police described the crash as devastating, causing heavy damage to the vehicle’s windshield and possibly deploying the airbag, along with causing horrendous injuries to the pedestrian.

There is no way that the operator of the vehicle did not know that he or she had been involved in this vicious collision.

In the early afternoon hours the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Squad investigators were given information from other police sources regarding a possible suspect vehicle.

Investigators responded to the suspect address, which is not being given out at this time, and located the suspect vehicle.

Investigators obtained a search warrant to seize the vehicle, which was secured at the Stamford Police Department Headquarters.

Stamford Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Squad would like to thank the many citizens of Stamford that called and helped police identify what year, make, and model of the vehicle that we were looking for regarding this collision.

Police said that information helped them develop a suspect vehicle.

According to News Ch 12, the victim was 74-year-old Marie Jean-Charles, a longtime employee of Shoprite, who had just gotten off the bus at the nearby stop.
