Shoplifting Suspect Racks up Charges in Attempt to Flee Greenwich Avenue

Greenwich police responded on Sunday afternoon to the area of Greenwich Avenue near Elm Street on a report of a shoplifting incident in progress.

An officer working a uniformed extra duty detail in the area attempted to apprehend the suspect. Police say a struggle ensued between the officer and suspect, who attempted to leave the scene in an illegally parked car on the Avenue.

During the struggle, police say the suspect, later identified as Emeil J Osbourne, 21, of Brooklyn, NY, put his car in neutral and failed to engage the brakes. He then got out of the car and fled the scene on foot, leaving behind the car which was uninsured, unregistered and had another car’s license plate attached. The car then crashed into another car.

Additional police flooded the area and set up a working perimeter. They were able to locate Mr. Osbourne nearby and take him into custody. Information was developed that Osbourne was directly involved with another suspect and had conspired to commit the larceny.

Osbourne faces multiple charges including: Driving an Unregistered Vehicle, Improper Use of Plates, Driving without Insurance, Evading Responsibility with Damage, Leaving Vehicle without Setting brakes, Operating Vehicle without License, Larceny 3, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 3, Interfering with Officer/Resisting, Breach of Peace 2 and Reckless Endangerment 2.

His bond was set at $25,000, which he was unable to post. He has a date in Stamford Superior Court on Feb 22, 2022.
