Serious Life Threatening Injuries after Tractor Trailer Strikes Two in Greenwich

In a statement released at 11:00am on Monday, Greenwich Police said that two Stamford residents suffered life-threatening injuries Saturday night when their car was struck by a tractor trailer.

“The tractor trailer had just exited the I-95 exit 3 southbound exit ramp and was continuing straight across Arch Street to re-enter the I-95 Entrance ramp to continue southbound once again,” the statement said.

The victim’s passenger vehicle was traveling south on Arch Street in the western-most lane of travel. The collision caused a significant intrusion into the interior compartment of the vehicle. The Greenwich Fire Department had to forcibly extricate the passengers to allow the medics from GEMS to provide medical care.

The victims were transported by GEMS personnel to Stamford Hospital’s Emergency Room for their life-threatening injuries. Both victims were admitted to Stamford Hospital and remain in critical condition.

The driver of the passenger vehicle has been identified as Christina Vomaco, 30, of Stamford. The passenger is Maiko Kobayashi, 32, of Stamford.

The circumstances surrounding this incident continue to be investigated by Greenwich Police Dept Traffic Section.

Original Story, 9:30am, Nov 20: Two Stamford residents suffered serious life threatening injuries on Saturday night when their vehicle was struck by a tractor trailer on Arch Street.

Around 5:30pm, Greenwich Police were notified of a serious collision at the intersection of Arch Street and the I-95 south bound off ramp at exit 3.

A tractor trailer had struck a passenger car entrapping the occupants. The Fire Dept had to extricate the driver and passenger from the damaged car. They were then transported to a local trauma center with serious, life threatening injuries.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

According to Greenwich Police, the collision is under investigation.
