Police Release Additional Details on Blizzard Bus Crash on Sound View

According to Lt. Kraig Gray, the person injured on the CT Transit bus on Sound View on Saturday was a 36-year-old Stamford man who didn’t have enough time to brace himself when it became clear the bus didn’t have traction to make it up the hill, and began to slide backward.

The accident, which happened around 8:00am on Saturday at the beginning of the blizzard in Greenwich, resulted in the bus crashing into a utility pole, taking down wires and resulting in Sound View Dr being closed from Field Point Rd to Arch St for several hours during the blizzard.
Lt. Gray said that as the bus continued to slide backwards down the steep hill, passengers braced themselves. However, one man couldn’t brace himself in time, and was bounced around inside the bus.
The bus had seven riders and there were no life-threatening injuries, though the Stamford may have suffered broken bones, according to Lt. Gray. The man was taken to Stamford Hospital.
