Plain Clothed Police Snag Two from Norwalk after Prescription Fraud on Greenwich Ave

Greenwich Police plainclothes officers responded to a call from a pharmacist on Greenwich Ave who reported suspicious activity on April 6.

Police say that while they were conducting surveillance, the pharmacist was able to verify the prescription was indeed fraudulent and recognized it as similar to incidents in past months.

When confronted, one suspect violently resisted arrest and fled on foot across a busy sidewalk and street.

Police say the subject attempted to enter a waiting getaway car.

The suspect and the driver were both arrested.

The driver, Elvis Leonel Canahui, 22, of Norwalk, CT was charged with Conspiracy to Commit/Possess Controlled Substance, Criminal Attempt/Possession Controlled Substance, Obtaining Controlled Drug through Fraud, Criminal Attempt to Obtain Controlled Drug through Fraud.

He was assigned a date in Stamford Superior Court on June11, 2021. He was released on a promise to appear.

Kason Jerell Sumpter, 23, of Norwalk. He was charged with Interfering with Officer/Resisting Arrest, Forgery 2, Identity Theft 3, Conspiracy to Commit/Possession Controlled Substance, Criminal Attempt/Possession Controlled Substance, Criminal Attempt to Obtain Controlled Drug through fraud, Conspiracy to Commit/Obtain Controlled Drug through Fraud.

Sumpter was able to post his $20,000 bond and has a date in Stamford Superior Court on June 11, 2021.
