On Tuesday at approximately 4:15pm, Greenwich Police responded to a Motor Vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in old Greenwich in the area of the Shell Station at 1429 East Putnam Ave.
According to Greenwich Police Lt Patrick Smyth, investigation determined that the pedestrian was crossing East Putnam Ave in the crosswalk, however the walk signal that would have given the pedestrian the safe right of way to cross was not illuminated.
“As traffic that had the green light began moving, the pedestrian began running faster in an attempt to cross before the oncoming traffic,” Smyth explained. “The pedestrian was struck within the crosswalk in the northernmost lane of westbound travel.”
Lt Smyth said the pedestrian was alert and conscious at the scene, with some visible lacerations and contusions. The pedestrian transported to Stamford Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
The pedestrian was issued a written warning pursuant to CGS 53-182, Reckless use of Highway by a Pedestrian.
