The 2-year-old boy struck by a car Friday in a Mill Road driveway has succumbed to his injuries, New Canaan’s police chief said. The vehicle was attempting to back out of the driveway when it struck the child, Chief Leon Krolikowski said in a press release. Police have said they received a report of the accident around 4 p.m. and that the boy had been transported to Norwalk Hospital. Out of respect for the family, police are releasing no further details.

Friday, June 6, Police: Child Struck by Car in New Canaan, in Critical Condition

A child is in critical condition at Norwalk Hospital after being struck by a car Friday afternoon on the eastern side of New Canaan, officials say.

Police at about 4 p.m. responded to Mill Road on a report of a child struck by a motor vehicle, according to a press release issued by Sgt. Carol Ogrinc of the New Canaan Police Department.

It isn’t clear just where the child was struck or what happened with the driver.

Mill Road runs along the Silvermine River between Blancard and Timber Ponds.

The accident is under investigation, and we will have more information as soon as it becomes available.
