Police late Saturday charged a 20-year-old New Canaan man with the murder of his own mother, officials say.

At about 10:36 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of South Avenue and Gerdes Road on a report of a man yelling from the woods, police said.
While they were responding, New Canaan Police dispatch received a 9-1-1 call from a man at a Gerdes Road home stating that he had killed his mother, according to a police report.
Arriving, officers identified the suspect as Sebastian Van Stockum, the report said.
Police and New Canaan EMS performed life-saving measures for the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, it said.
Police charged Van Stockum with murder. He is being held on $2 million bond.
“New Canaan Police Detectives are actively investigating this incident and being assisted by the Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crimes,” police said in their report. “This is an isolated incident and there is no danger to public safety. As this incident is domestic in nature, no further information will be released. The name of the victim is being withheld until next of kin is notified.”
