More Dead Raccoons Discovered at Greenwich Point

The Greenwich Police Animal Control Section officials have responded to several reports of dead or very sick raccoons at Greenwich Point in the last week to 10 days.

Earlier this week Greenwich Free Press reported that police had responded to several reports involving raccoons last week, including one that fell through someone’s skylight.

Police announced on Thursday that the animals found last week at Greenwich Point have been tested, and rabies is not a factor, but on February 12 and 13, two more raccoons were found deceased at Greenwich Point (Wednesday and Thursday).

The dead animals are undergoing further testing for distemper and other wild animal illness and the results will be announced when they have returned.

“We are still requesting that all dogs be leashed and under control of their owner, and to keep them away from any wildlife,” Police said on Thursday.

For more information regarding distemper, please contact your local veterinarian.
