Around noon on Monday October 12, John Klokel, 67, of 2D Putnam Green in Greenwich, had an incident at Richards 359 Greenwich Avenue that resulted in his arrest. According to Greenwich Police, staff from Richards called to report shoplifter being detained in the store.
Officers were advised by Richards Asset Protection personnel that Mr Klokel had exited the store without paying for a M. Baldassari navy blue plaid sport coat valued at $895.00.
According to Greenwich Police Lt. Kraig Gray, Mr. Klokel had been shopping in Richards and tried on a sports coat and blue jeans. The jeans were being tailored, he left withe coat on and when he came back to pick up the tailored jeans, he no longer had the coat. He was charged with Larceny 5th degree.
Mr. Klokel advised police he had left the coat in Starbucks and Greenwich Police were able to recover the sport coat. Klokel’s bond was set at $2,000 which he posted and was release. He has a court appearance date of Oct 19 at Stamford Superior Court.
