CT State Police: Rye Woman Perished in Crash that Closed I95 for Several Hours

Update: Connecticut State Police released the name of a driver who died in a three car collision on I95 near exit 3 Monday around 4:45pm. Jill Haskel, 89, of Rye, NY was  driving a Subaru Crosstrek at the time of the crash.

State police said a Mazda driven by a Purdys, NY man was in front of Haskell’s Subaru in the far left lane and a Porsche driven by a Greenwich woman, a  was in the middle lane when Haskel approached the Mazda from the rear, failed to maintain its lane, crossed partly into the center lane, and struck the rear driver side corner of the Porsche. The Subaru subsequently spun in a clockwise manner perpendicular to the roadway, rolled onto the rear portion of the Mazda, and slid along the roadway on its driver side body. The Mazda came to uncontrolled final rest in the left lane. The Porsche came to controlled final rest in the right shoulder.

The Subaru came to uncontrolled final rest in the left lane on its driver side body. The Mazda and Porsche drivers were uninjured as a result of the collision. The Subaru driver, Ms Haskell, sustained serious injuries, was transported by Greenwich Emergency Medical Services to Greenwich Hospital, and was pronounced deceased.

Original story: On Monday night, Connecticut State Police began an investigation of a motor vehicle accident that took place around 5:00pm on I-95 Southbound by exit 3.

I-95 Southbound was closed between exits 3 and 2 for several hours, causing significant delays and increased traffic on local town roads.

Police said the rollover crash caused serious injuries.
