The fraudulent message warns that if the fine is not paid immediately, the recipient may face penalties such as license suspension, vehicle registration suspension, additional fees, legal action, or impacts to their credit.
These messages are scams.
The Greenwich Police Department said they never request payment for tickets or fines via text message, phone call, or email. Nor will they contact you if you have not paid a ticket.
If you receive a speeding ticket from an officer, instructions on how to properly address or pay the ticket are printed on the back of the ticket.
Police warn, “Do not click any links or provide personal or financial information. If you receive one of these messages, please delete it and report it as spam.”
Spreading the word about the scam helps protect others in the community.
