UPDATE: Driver in Saturday’s Fatal Car Crash Identified as Westhill High Senior

Update, Sept 29: Jordan Martinez, 17, a Westhill High School senior, was the driver of Honda that crashed into a pole on East Putnam Ave near the Hyatt on Saturday night.

Jordan’s death has been classified as accidental. The CT Medical Examiner’s Office has said he died from blunt force trauma to the torso and other areas of the body.

On Sunday Westhill Football Tweeted, “It breaks our heart to say that our teammate and beloved friend Jordan Martinez passed away last night. Our hearts are with his family and friends.”

Original story, Sept 28: Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred last Saturday night around 11:30pm.

An initial investigation has determined that a 2009 Honda Civic was traveling westbound on East Putnam Ave when it left the road in the area of Wendle Place, which is near the Hyatt Regency, and struck a wall.

The 17 year-old driver was taken to an area hospital where he died of his injuries.

The identity of the operator is not being released by police at this time because he is a juvenile.

Greenwich Police Crash Reconstruction Team continues to investigate the crash.
