Greenwich Police Make Arrest in “Vishing” Voice Phishing Scheme

Greenwich Police arrested a Jersey City, NJ man on Sept 17 after being contacted by a victim about a scam.

Police said the victim began being contacted by a group of criminals working to defraud people via phone.

Through an elaborate vishing (voice phishing) scheme he was defrauded into providing $25,000 in cash to a money courier. Afterward, the perpetrators demanded he obtain $400,000 in gold and provide it to them in the same manner.

After the victim contacted police, they were able to arrange for a controlled meet on Sept 17 with the courier responding to pick up the gold. Upon his arrival he was identified as Hriday Arya, 25, and placed under arrest. Mr. Arya confessed to detectives that he had done similar activities in the past and receives monetary compensation.

He was charged with Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 1 and Criminal Attempt/Larceny 1.

He was unable to post his $250,000 bond and held at GPD pending his date on Oct 1, 2025 in Stamford Superior Court.
