Update #2
According to the Greenwich Firefighters Instagram Thursday afternoon, the fire dept was arrived within minutes of being dispatched to find heavy fire in the “mansion style residential structure,” which was undergoing a renovation.
“Crews made an aggressive interior attack to try and stop the fires spread but due to the large volume of fire already present they were forced to back out and start defensive operations. The bravo side and delta side exposures posed a significant risk of catching fire and the fire building itself was well involved throughout.
“Fires this large and extensive require a lot of man power beyond the GFDs capabilities. A general alarm was called which brings all Greenwich Career units, Stamford Fire Rescue and Greenwich Volunteer units to the scene to assist. Multiple collapses were reported as suppression operations continued into the morning. Tower ladder master streams and several hand lines were used to extinguish the blaze and protect the adjacent homes in the neighborhood.”
The post noted the fire was under investigation by Greenwich Fire Marshals and CT State Police Fire Explosion Investigation Unit.
Finally, they wrote, “Two GFD members from Local 1042 are injured and have been transported to an area hospital for continued treatment.”
