Greenwich Police released a statement on Thursday morning advising residents how to avoid motor vehicle thefts and motor vehicle larcenies during the holiday season.
Police say motor vehicle thefts are up in Greenwich this year. To date there have been 52 reported incidents.
The vast majority of these incidents involve cars having been left unlocked and the keys in the car.
This year there have been 88 incidents of larcenies from motor vehicles. In most of the cases the cars had been left unlocked and valuables left in the vehicles.
As the holiday season approaches police say residents can help avoid becoming victims by:
• Always remember to lock your car
• Always remember to take your keys
• Don’t leave valuables in plain sight within your cars
• Report suspicious behavior
