On July 23 a Brooklyn man surrendered to Greenwich Police on an outstanding warrant for charges stemming back to Jan 4, 2023.
Brian M Simon, 25, of Brooklyn, NY was wanted on charges related to conspiring to commit fraud in the area of Greenwich Avenue.
Police said that one of Mr. Simon’s accomplices had attempted to open a business account using fraudulent Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
Mr. Simon’s accomplices were arrested back on Jan 4, 2023, and search warrants of their cell phone revealed that there were telegram conversations between one of them and “The Taker.”
Numerous conversations were discovered and all of them consisted of their conspiracy to commit hundreds of frauds. Also police said that the co-conspirators shared screenshots of Personal Identifying Information and photographs of checks, and discussed arranging dates and times to pick up mules, scheduled ordering fake IDs for mules, and even discussed their own ID machine.
Another search warrant was completed and it identified the account owner as Brian M. Simon.
The warrant was issued on Feb 8, 2024 and it charged Mr. Simon with:
Identity Theft 3 (2 counts)
Conspiracy to Commit Illegal Traffic in Personal ID Information
Illegal Trafficking in Personal ID Information
Illegal Traffic in Personal ID Information
Forgery 2 (2 counts)
Mr. Simon was taken into custody without incident and was processed.
He was assigned a date in Stamford Superior Court on Aug 6, 2024.
His court set bond was $125,000 but he was not released due to non financial conditions of release by the court that state the bond is to be posted at the Court House only after hearing.
